Elisabeth Ehlers was born in Wuppertal and grew up in a musical family. From an early age she was an enthusiastic concert-goer but was not so keen on practising the cello. After passing her final school examinations (Abitur), specializing in classics, and following studies in England and in French-speaking Switzerland she started a business apprenticeship with the Wylach Concert Agency, at the time one of the largest in the branch. During the six years she was with this agency she learned her trade in the sphere of artist management and tour planning. Her ‘favourite occupation’ was the planning of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau’s recital tours.

In 1984 Elisabeth Ehlers set up her own business together with Lothar Schacke in Munich. Her particular preference for lied and the work for and with Irwin Gage soon resulted in contacts with interesting singers, among them the unforgettable Arleen Auger, of prime importance for creating the basis for the singing department of the KünstlerSekretariat am Gasteig. Moreover Elisabeth Ehlers works for some instrumentalists as Julia Fischer and Vilde Frang, two outstanding violinists of our time.

Elisabeth Ehlers’ profession is also her vocation and she is as enthusiastic as ever. She enjoys communicating with her business partners and staff, with artists and organizers, working with the young generation in the form of master-classes in music management or as a jury member in competitions, and of course attending opera performances and concerts. She spends her private time with her husband and her son. When work allows, she enjoys going to the theatre or cinema, visiting exhibitions or travelling. And besides all that she enjoys playing cards.
