Born in Jerusalem and raised in South Africa, Ammiel Bushakevitz began playing the piano at the age of four. His studies took him to Leipzig and Paris, where he studied, among others, with Phillip Moll and Alfred Brendel. He was also one of the last private students of the legendary song interpreter Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. This close connection to the tradition of German Lied continues to shape his artistic profile to this day.

As a song accompanist, soloist and chamber musician, Bushakevitz performs on six continents and has appeared at leading venues including Carnegie Hall in New York, Wigmore Hall in London, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Philharmonie de Paris and the Konzerthaus Berlin. International highlights include appearances at the Salzburg Festival, the Bayreuth Festival, the Lucerne Festival and the Schubertiades in Schwarzenberg and Hohenems, Vilabertran and Tel Aviv. He has a particular passion for collaborating with singers, with whom he regularly performs in concerts and recitals, including Konstantin Krimmel, Anna Lucia Richter, Samuel Hasselhorn, Laetitia Grimaldi, Ilker Arcayürek, Rihab Chaieb, Catriona Morison, Katharina Konradi, Christian Gerhaher, Julia Kleiter, Thomas Hampson, Anna Prohaska and Nadine Sierra. His performances combine profound knowledge of the song repertoire with an exceptional sensitivity to language, sound and musical dialogue.

Highlights of the 2026/27 season include international engagements in France, Canada, the United States, Austria, the United Kingdom and Spain. Ammiel Bushakevitz will give song recitals at venues including the Munich Opera Festival at the Bavarian State Opera, the Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin, the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Ganz Hall in Chicago, Wigmore Hall in London, Carnegie Hall in New York, Koerner Hall in Toronto and the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris.

Alongside his concert activities, Ammiel Bushakevitz is deeply committed to recording, which forms an important part of his artistic work. In August 2026, Ammiel Bushakevitz and baritone Konstantin Krimmel released the album Melancolie (Songs by Brahms & Mandyczewski) on the Alpha label. In April 2026, he released the third album in the “Schubert 200” project with baritone Samuel Hasselhorn on Harmonia Mundi. The first album, Die schöne Müllerin, received the Diapason d’or de l’année 2023, while the second, Licht und Schatten, was awarded the Diapason d’or de l’année 2025 as well as the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik.

Bushakevitz released his debut solo album in 2013, featuring piano works by Schubert. The recording was subsequently used as the soundtrack to the Austrian film Gwendolyn. Since then, he has made numerous further recordings for renowned labels including Harmonia Mundi, Alpha, BIS, Pentatone, Hänssler and Berlin Classics. In collaboration with Hänssler Classics, he is currently undertaking a major project to record Franz Schubert’s complete solo piano works, scheduled to be completed between 2024 and 2028.

Beyond his concert and recording activities, Bushakevitz is deeply committed to music education and the promotion of young musicians. He regularly gives masterclasses at international institutions including the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, the University of Queensland, the Beijing Conservatory, the University of Barcelona and the University of Colorado. Through benefit concerts and masterclasses for humanitarian organisations, he has also worked in Ethiopia, Brazil, China, Morocco, Mexico, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Bushakevitz lives in Paris and is an alumnus of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), a member of the Société des Arts Sciences et Lettres de Paris and an Edison Fellow of the British Library in London. He is also the Artistic Director of the international arts association Les Voix d’Orphée.
