"When we sing, we tell stories. And stories always have something human about them because, in the end, they are experiences that are collected and passed on." – Anna Lucia Richter

Anna Lucia Richter has established herself internationally as a versatile and emotionally as well as intellectually engaging mezzo-soprano across the genres of art song, opera, and concert. Her voice, which skillfully weaves baroque lightness with romantic drama, along with her powerful stage presence, allows her to explore a broad repertoire. This repertoire spans from Bach's oratorios and orchestral works by Berlioz, Ravel, and Mahler to the art songs of Schubert, Wolf, and Brahms, and includes significant roles within her vocal range in the operas of Monteverdi, Handel, Mozart, Bizet, and Strauss, as well as contemporary works by Reimann, Holliger, and Rihm.

In the 2024/25 season, Anna Lucia Richter will perform as Idamante in a concert version of Mozart's "Idomeneo" in Helsinki, Amsterdam, and Herne, and as Cherubino in a concert version of Mozart's "Le Nozze di Figaro" in Basel, Luxembourg, Paris, and Hamburg under the baton of Giovanni Antonini. Additional concert engagements will take her to the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra with Mozart's Requiem under the baton of Manfred Honeck, and on tour with Bach's St. Matthew Passion and the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin under the baton of Justin Doyle, performing in Berlin, Barcelona, Valencia, and Santander. Together with the Budapest Festival Orchestra under the baton of Iván Fischer, she will sing Mahler's Symphony No. 2 and "Kindertotenlieder" in Budapest, Bruges, the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, and the Concertgebouw Amsterdam. Art song remains of great importance to her, as she will perform Mahler's "Wunderhorn-Lieder" with the Gürzenich Orchestra under the direction of Thomas Guggeis in Cologne, as well as in recitals in Hamburg and Stuttgart.

Anna Lucia Richter has long been a prominent figure in the opera world, even before her debut as Zerlina at the Salzburg Festival in 2021 under the baton of Teodor Currentzis. She regularly receives invitations to perform at the Cologne Opera (including roles such as Sesto/Handel, Hänsel/Humperdinck), Theater an der Wien (La Périchole/Offenbach, Elisabeth/Henze), Dutch National Opera, Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin, and Opera de Lille (La Musica and Euridice/Monteverdi), where she consistently captivates critics and audiences alike with her compelling and sensitive interpretations.

In the concert field, the mezzo-soprano collaborates closely with renowned orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic, the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, the London Symphony Orchestra, Il Giardino Armonico, MusicAeterna, the Orchestre de Paris, the Budapest Festival Orchestra, the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, under the batons of conductors like Iván Fischer, Paavo Järvi, Klaus Mäkelä, Franz Welser-Möst, Bernard Haitink, Herbert Blomstedt, Marin Alsop, and Jakub Hrůša.

Anna Lucia Richter gives recitals in the world's major music centers and has sung at venues such as the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall London, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Konzerthaus Vienna, Carnegie Hall and Park Avenue Armory New York, as well as Suntory Hall Tokyo and the Frankfurt Opera. She is accompanied by piano partners like Ammiel Bushakevitz, Sir András Schiff, Mitsuko Uchida, Daniel Heide, Igor Levit, Michael Gees, and Gerold Huber. As a welcomed guest, she receives invitations to renowned festivals, including the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg/Hohenems, the Lucerne Festival, the Granada Festival, the Verbier Festival, the Gstaad Festival, the BBC Proms in London, the Heidelberger Frühling, and the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. In 2018, she was "Artist in Residence" at the Rheingau Music Festival and held the same position for the 2018/19 season at the Cologne Philharmonic.

Anna Lucia Richter's artistic work is documented on numerous award-winning albums. In October 2023, her CD "Licht" (Challenge Classics), a musical journey through 800 years of German art song, was released in collaboration with Ammiel Bushakevitz. Previously, she has released recordings of Brahms and Schubert lieder, as well as works by Monteverdi on the Pentatone label, Bach arias awarded with the "Diapason d’Or" on the Alpha label, and Schumann lieder and improvisations on Challenge Classics. With the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Jakub Hrůša, she recorded Mahler's Symphony No. 4, which won the "Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik" in 2021. Additionally, her recording of Schumann and Reimann lieder with the Schumann Quartet, released by Berlin Classics, earned her the "Opus Klassik" award in 2019.

Anna Lucia Richter comes from a family with a rich musical tradition and began her career as a soprano. In 2020, she transitioned to the mezzo repertoire under the guidance of Prof. Tamar Rachum. Her education was also significantly shaped by Kurt Widmer, Klesie Kelly-Moog, Christoph Prégardien, and Margreet Honig. Among her most important influences and mentors, she counts Bernard Haitink, Mitsuko Uchida, and Sir András Schiff. In addition to numerous other awards, Anna Lucia Richter is a laureate of the prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Trust.

The singer regularly gives masterclasses and is committed to her role as a cultural ambassador for the organization Casa Hogar Deutschland e.V., which works to empower girls and women in the crisis region of Chocó, Colombia.
