Limburg-born soprano Julia Kleiter studied with Prof. William Workmann in Hamburg and Prof. Klesie Kelly-Moog in Cologne. In 2004, she made her debut at the Opéra-Bastille in Paris as Pamina, a role she sang in numerous productions in Madrid, Zurich, at the New York Met, in Munich or at the Salzburg Festival over the next ten years under the baton of conductors such as Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Marc Minkowski, Claudio Abbado, Adam Fischer and, most recently, Philippe Jordan.

Riccardo Muti, Ivor Bolton, René Jacobs, Helmut Rilling, Fabio Luisi, Philippe Herreweghe, Giovanni Antonini and Marek Janowski are other conductors who have accompanied Julia Kleiters on her musical journey. She sang Beethoven's 9th Symphony under Daniel Barenboim in Berlin, Dvořák's Stabat Mater in Munich, Dvořák's Requiem in Berlin and Schumann's Das Paradies und die Peri in Frankfurt, Zurich and Leipzig. She sang Brahms' Deutsches Requiem in London and at the Salzburg Easter Festival. Haydn's Schöpfung brought Julia Kleiter to La Scala in Milan and to Berlin. On tour with the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden under Christian Thielemann, she sang the soprano part in Zemlinsky's Lyric Symphony - a further step towards the great lyric repertoire.

At the Royal Opera House Covent Garden she sang the Contessa in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro under Sir John Eliot Gardiner and at La Scala Milan under Daniel Harding. Also at La Scala, she sang Agathe in Weber's Der Freischütz and Ilia in Mozart's Idomeneo. Other recent highlights include Donna Anna at the Hamburg State Opera and the Elbphilharmonie, and Eva in Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg under Daniel Barenboim in Berlin, Philippe Jordan in Paris and Christian Thielemann in Dresden. In 2022/23, Julia Kleiter made her role debut as Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier in Brussels, which she also performed at the Berlin and Vienna State Operas last season, and returned to the Bavarian State Opera as Agathe and to the Semperoper in Dresden as Contessa.

In season 2024/25 Julia Kleiter is invited to the Hamburg State Opera to sing Agathe in Andreas Kriegenburg's new production of Weber's Freischütz. She makes her role debut as Rosalinde in the Bavarian State Opera's Fledermaus production and returns to the Semperoper Dresden as Countess Almavia.

On the concert stage, Julia Kleiter can be heard in Paris with Bach's Mass in B minor under Klaus Mäkelä, at the Berlin State Opera with Zemlinski's Lyric Symphony under Thomas Guggeis, in a staged interprotation of Elias at the Zurich Opera House under the direction of Gianandrea Noseda and finally with Brahms Ein deutsches Reqiuem on a European tour with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra under Andris Nelsons.

With her unique Lied interpretations, Julia Kleiter is a regular guest at London's Wigmore Hall, at the Schubertiades in Schwarzenberg and Vilabertran and at the Heidelberger Frühling. She was the soprano partner in the Spanisches Liederbuch in Heidelberg, London, Madrid, Munich and at the Salzburg Festival as part of Christian Gerhaher's large-scale project on Hugo Wolf's song oeuvre. In the fall of 2023, she enriched the Liedwoche at Schloss Elmau with a duo recital alongside Christian Gerhaher.

Numerous CDs and DVDs document her artistic work, including her recording of songs by Franz Liszt and Julius Drake at the piano, which will be available on Hyperion in January 2020. She also plays a major role in Sony's recording of the complete Schumann works, accompanied on the piano by Gerold Huber.
