Born in Bratislava (Slovakia), soprano Simona Šaturová began her musical education with violin lessons at the age of five. After graduating from high school, she studied singing at the Bratislava Conservatory and attended various master classes, including ones led by the Romanian soprano Ileana Cotrubas and the vocal expert Margreet Honig, with whom she continues to coach. Today Simona Šaturová is internationally sought after on the opera stage as well as on the concert platform, and works with many renowned conductors and orchestras.
She has performed in New York, Dallas, Oslo, Toronto, Istanbul, at the Salzburg Festival, the Tanglewood Festival, the Oregon Bach Festival in Eugene, in Japan, Israel and Venezuela, at the Festival Internazionale di Musica e Arte Sacra Roma, the Lucerne Festival, the Rheingau Music Festival and the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. Musical partners include Christoph Eschenbach, Herbert Blomstedt, Adam Fischer, Iván Fischer, Sylvain Cambreling, Manfred Honeck, Tomáš Netopil, Kent Nagano, Christopher Hogwood, Antonello Manacorda and Jakub Hrusa.
The artist makes guest appearances all over the world, and since 2010 she has been particularly associated with the Théatre de la Monnaie in Brussels, where she has appeared as Violetta Valéry (La traviata), Sandrina (La finta giardiniera), Servilia (Titus), Gilda (Rigoletto), Ismene (Mitridate), Lucio Cinna (Lucia Silla) and most recently as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni as well as the Contessa in La nozze di Figaro. In addition to numerous appearances at the National Theater in Prague, the soprano has also been heard on the stages of the Teatro Colón Buenos Aires, the Frankfurt Opera, the Semperoper in Dresden, the Theater an der Wien, the Théâtre du Châtelet Paris, the Opéra de Monte Carlo and the Megaron in Athens. Her repertoire includes the roles of Lucia (Lucia di Lammermoor), Adina (L'elisir d'amore), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Elettra (Idomeneo), Vitellia (La clemenza di Tito), Giulietta (I Capuleti e i Montecchi), Celia (Lucio Silla) and Madama Cortese (Il viaggio a Reims).
In the 2022/2023 season, Simona Šaturová will once again make a guest appearance in Prague, appearing at Opera de Rouen as Vitellia in La Clemenza di Tito under Ben Glassberg.
Simona Šaturová has also made a name for herself internationally as a concert and oratorio singer. In the concert field, interesting projects are waiting: with the Prague Philharmonia under Vaclav Luks, she will perform one of her favorite works, Mozart's Mass in C minor in Ostrava. At the Slovak National Theater in Bratislava she will participate in a tribute to Edita Gruberova in a gala concert and as Violetta Valery (La traviata) under Robert Jindra. In Heidelberg she will sing a highly virtuosic aria program with works by J. Haydn, G. Paisiello and W. A. Mozart, in Utrecht and Amsterdam Beethoven's 9th Symphony under K. Urbański and in Košice under R. Jindra, in Lucerne Mendelssohn's Lobgesang under R. Chailly and in Bratislava under P. Altrichter, in Essen Beethoven's Chorfantasie under T. Netopil. At the Prague Spring Festival she will be heard in Beethoven's 9th Symphony under Christoph Eschenbach. She ends the season with Dvořák's Stabat Mater and the Czech Philharmonic under T. Netopil in Ostrava and at Smetana's Litomyšl Festival.
CD recordings are available on the labels Supraphon, hänssler classic, Classico as well as Carus Verlag and Sony/BMG. Under the title Haydn Arias she presented her first solo recording with the NDR Radiophilharmonie under the baton of Alessandro De Marchi on ORFEO. This received the Editor's Choice award from Gramophone Magazine. Her solo CD Decade with virtuoso arias by W. A. Mozart and J. Mysliveček, the recording of Martinů's opera Ariane and most recently a CD with Dvořák's Moravian Duets (Supraphon) were also released.
