Born in Leipzig, Patrick Grahl was initially a member of the St. Thomas Boys Choir under the baton of Georg Christoph Biller, after which he received his vocal training at the "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" Academy of Music with Berthold Schmid and completed his studies with the master class examination (with distinction). Master classes with Peter Schreier, Gotthold Schwarz, Gerd Türk, KS Ileana Cotrubas and Karl-Peter Kammerlander gave important impulses to his artistic development.

While still a student, he was able to acquire and perform roles such as Alfred (Strauss: Die Fledermaus), Tamino (Mozart: Die Zauberflöte) and Albert (Britten: Albert Herring). He has also appeared as the Young Servant in Richard Strauss' Elektra, as the Shepherd/Voice of a Young Sailor in Richard Wagner`s Tristan und Isolde at the Opéra National de Lyon, as Don Ottavio (Mozart: Don Giovanni) at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, and as Jaquino (Beethoven`s Fidelio) together with the Insula Orchestra conducted by Laurence Equilbey.

Until 2013 Patrick Grahl was a scholarship holder of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, Bonn. In 2014, he won the 1st prize of the Early Music Promotion Award of the Saarländischer Rundfunk and the Akademie für Alte Musik im Saarland with the Ensemble Barockwerk Ost. He was also a member of the male quartet Thios Omilos until 2018. Since then he has been active only as a soloist.

In 2016, the tenor was awarded 1st prize at the 20th International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig. This opened doors for him as a much sought-after oratorio and concert singer. He makes guest appearances with orchestras such as the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Dresden Philharmonic, the Dresden Staatskapelle, the NDR Radiophilharmonie, the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne and the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI di Torino and the London Symphony Orchestra under the direction of conductors such as Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Daniele Gatti, Hartmut Haenchen, Ludwig Güttler, Manfred Honeck, Ton Koopman, Andrew Manze, Leopold Hager, Omer Meir Wellber, Stefano Montanari and Hans- Christoph Rademann. He is still closely associated with the Thomanerchor and the Dresdner Kreuzchor.

In the season 2023/2024, the singer will again be involved in interesting projects: In Brussels he will sing Handel's Messiah under the baton of Ian Page, Bach's Christmas Oratorio will be performed in Hong Kong with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta under the baton of Christoph Poppen, in the Kreuzkirche Dresden under the baton of Martin Lehmann and in Pamplona under Perry So, among others. In Hamburg's Elbphilharmonie he sings Mozart's Coronation Mass under the baton of Hans-Jörg Albrecht. At the Konzerthaus Berlin, he can be heard singing Bach's Mass in B Minor under the direction of Vladimir Jurowski and the Rias Kammerchor. In Antwerp he sings Bach's St. Matthew Passion with the Dresdner Kammerchor under zhe baton of Hans Christoph Rademann, and a tour of the Netherlands takes him to Emmen, Groningen, Assen, Drachten and Leeuwarden with the Noord Nederlands Orkest (conductor: Eivind Gullberg Jensen). At the Kulturpalast Dresden he will perform Schubert's Mass in A flat major under the baton of Martin Lehmann. In the seasons 22/23 and 23/24 Patrick Grahl will be involved in another major project of the International Bach Academy: Under the direction of Hans-Christoph Rademann, a complete Bach cantata cycle will be performed and recorded on CD. At the 10th anniversary of the Portuguese Festival International de Música de Marvão, he will make his role debut as Pedrillo in Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail under the baton of Christoph Poppen (director: Sabine Theunissen).

In addition to his numerous engagements on the concert and opera stage, Patrick Grahl also focuses on chamber music projects and song recitals: among others, he will give song recitals at the Schubertiade in Schwarzenberg and in Ingolstadt in 2023/24, accompanied by Malcolm Martineau.

His Lied CD "Dichterliebe", accompanied by Daniel Heide, has been released on the CAvi label. Of last season's orchestral projects, Bach's "Magnificat" under the baton of Hans-Christoph Rademann and the Gaechinger Cantorey appeared on the Hänssler label.
