The German-British soprano Sarah Wegener captivates audiences worldwide with her profound expressiveness, stylistic versatility, and exceptional command of text. Her artistic repertoire ranges from Handel, Strauss, Wagner and Mahler to contemporary music – encompassing the concert stage, opera and song.

Her musical partners include conductors such as Kirill Petrenko, Vladimir Jurowski, Edward Gardner, Petr Popelka, Andris Nelsons, Semyon Bychkov and Daniel Harding. She performs with renowned orchestras including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orquesta y Coro Nacionales de España, the Orchestre de Paris, the Czech Philharmonic, the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.

Her musical journeys take her to major concert halls around the world, including the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Gewandhaus Leipzig, the Philharmonies in Berlin, Cologne, Munich and Paris, KKL Luzern, the Musikverein and Konzerthaus Vienna, the Rudolfinum Prague, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Auditorio Nacional Madrid, Suntory Hall Tokyo and the Royal Albert Hall London. She is also a regular guest at renowned festivals such as the Salzburg Festival, Wiener Festwochen, Schwetzingen SWR Festival, Oxford Lieder Festival, Rheingau Music Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and Festival de Lanaudière.

In the 2026/27 season, Sarah Wegener once again turns her attention with great intensity to major works by Mozart, Zemlinsky, Wagner and Mahler. She opens the season with Mozart’s Requiem with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra under Sylvain Cambreling at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg. At the Vienna Musikverein, she subsequently performs Zemlinsky’s Lyric Symphony with the ORF Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien under Markus Poschner. Further highlights include Mahler’s Fourth Symphony with the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra and his Second Symphony with the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg.

As Sieglinde in Wagner’s Die Walküre, Sarah Wegener returns to the stage of the Wiener Konzerthaus together with Concerto Köln under the direction of Kent Nagano. To conclude the season, she returns to the music of Gustav Mahler, performing his monumental Eighth Symphony with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra under Gustavo Gimeno.

Sarah Wegener is also a passionate recitalist and regularly appears at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg and the Kölner Philharmonie. On the opera stage, she has won acclaim in roles including Sieglinde, Freia and Agathe at leading houses such as the Royal Opera House London, the Prague State Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin and Saarländisches Staatstheater. She has a particular affinity with contemporary music and regularly collaborates with composers of our time.

Sarah Wegener also makes a powerful mark in the symphonic repertoire, performing works by composers including Schoenberg, Sibelius, Penderecki and Widmann. Her discography reflects the remarkable stylistic breadth of her artistry: the albums Into the Deepest Sea and Zueignung have received numerous accolades. For her recording of songs in arrangements by B. A. Zimmermann, she was awarded a Choc de Classica as well as the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik. Her recording of Jörg Widmann’s Drittes Labyrinth was nominated for an OPUS Klassik.

Sarah Wegener studied voice with Prof. Bernhard Jäger-Böhm in Stuttgart and furthered her training in masterclasses with Dame Gwyneth Jones and Renée Morloc. Originally trained as a double bassist, she brings a distinctive musical depth and sensitivity to her interpretations. Since 2024, she has passed on her experience as Professor of Voice at the Zurich University of the Arts, with the same passion and dedication that she brings to her own work on stage.
