German baritone Jonas Müller is the recipient of the 2025 Music Prize of the German Business Community. The associated laureate tour takes him to the Beethovenfest Bonn, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, the Rheingau Music Festival, the Ludwigsburg Schlossfestspiele, the Heidelberg Spring Festival and the Lucerne Festival.
Since the 2026/27 season, Jonas Müller has been a permanent ensemble member of Oper Frankfurt. Previously, he was a member of the International Opera Studio of Oper Frankfurt, where he made his debut as Guglielmo in Mozart’s Così fan tutte and also appeared as Yakusidé in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. In his first season as an ensemble member, his roles include Emireno in Handel’s Ottone and Marquis de Corcy in Adam’s Le postillon de Lonjumeau.
A sought-after concert and lieder singer, Jonas Müller’s highlights of the 2026/27 season include an international tour of Bach’s St Matthew Passion with Collegium Vocale Gent under the direction of Philippe Herreweghe. He will also perform Mendelssohn’s Elijah at the Isarphilharmonie Munich and embark on a Christmas tour with the Nederlandse Bachvereniging featuring Johann Sebastian Bach’s Magnificat and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach’s Magnificat. Further engagements include Bach’s St Matthew Passion with the Bach Academy Stuttgart, as well as a staged production of the work based on a concept by Folkert Uhde with LauschWerk and Concerto Stella Matutina. Additional projects include Haydn’s The Seasons with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin and the Audi Youth Choir Academy under the direction of Martin Steidler, as well as concerts in Ingolstadt, at the Rheingau Music Festival and in South Tyrol.
Jonas Müller’s early operatic engagements include Count Almaviva in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro with Kammeroper München at Munich’s Cuvilliés Theatre in 2022, as well as Lubano in Der Stein der Weisen with Hofkapelle München. The recording of this precursor to The Magic Flute was released by Sony Classical in 2024. In 2024, he appeared at “Winter in Schwetzingen” under the direction of Jörg Halubek as Adonis in J. S. Kusser’s opera Adonis.
In the concert field, Jonas Müller collaborates with renowned orchestras and ensembles including the Gewandhausorchester, WDR Symphony Orchestra, Münchner Klangverwaltung, Freiburger Barockorchester and Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin. He has worked with conductors such as Thomas Guggeis, Frieder Bernius, Christoph Poppen, Jos van Immerseel, Hans-Christoph Rademann, Hansjörg Albrecht and Thomaskantor Andreas Reize. His concert engagements have taken him to venues including the Berlin, Cologne and Munich Philharmonie halls, the Herkulessaal in Munich, Hamburg’s Laeiszhalle, Hong Kong City Hall and the Pavarotti-Freni Theatre in Modena.
Lieder holds a central place in Jonas Müller’s artistic work. Together with pianist Anna Gebhardt, he was a prizewinner at the 2024 International Competition for Lied Art of the International Hugo Wolf Academy. He has also enjoyed a close collaboration with pianist Gerold Huber and has performed at the Schubertíada Vilabertran, the Hindsgavl Festival and the Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin, as well as with pianists including Julius Drake, Aris Alexander Blettenberg and Herbert Schuch. Together with the guitar duo Tomasi-Musso, he developed a new version of Schubert’s Winterreise, released by Oehms Classics in 2025.
Born in Deggendorf in 1999, Jonas Müller received his early musical training as a member of the “Pueri Cantores Altahensis” of Niederalteich Abbey. From 2017 to 2019, he studied at the Pre-College of the University of Music Würzburg with Prof. Daniela Sindram, followed by studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich with Prof. Lars Woldt and a Master’s degree in Concert Singing with KS Prof. Christiane Iven. He received further artistic inspiration through masterclasses with Brigitte Fassbaender, Thomas Hampson, Christoph Prégardien and Ian Bostridge, as well as through Prof. Christian Gerhaher’s Lied class at the University of Music and Theatre Munich.
