The Julia Fischer Quartet unites four exceptional musicians — Julia Fischer, Alexander Sitkovetsky, Nils Mönkemeyer, and Benjamin Nyffenegger — each an acclaimed soloist in their own right. The quartet was founded in 2010 during Fischer’s festival at Lake Starnberg, where the musicians discovered a shared artistic vision, mutual sensitivity, and an extraordinary musical chemistry.
Today, the ensemble performs at leading international venues including Berlin’s Konzerthaus, Munich’s Prinzregententheater, London’s Wigmore Hall, Luxembourg Philharmonie, the Tonhalle Zurich, and Leipzig Gewandhaus. In the 2025/26 season, the quartet embarks on an extensive European tour with performances from Thessaloniki to Munich, Zurich, London, Berlin, and Tallinn.
Julia Fischer stands among the foremost violinists of our time, with a career shaped by outstanding versatility as soloist, chamber musician, artistic director, and professor. Winner of the 1995 Yehudi Menuhin Competition, she has since collaborated with the world’s leading orchestras and received numerous major awards for her cultural achievements.
Alexander Sitkovetsky, born into a renowned musical family in Moscow, made his debut at eight and studied at the Menuhin School under Lord Menuhin’s mentorship. A frequent guest with major orchestras and festivals, he is also founder of the award-winning Sitkovetsky Trio.
Nils Mönkemeyer has redefined the profile of the viola with his wide-ranging repertoire, acclaimed recordings for Sony Classical, and collaborations with major international orchestras. A sought-after teacher, he serves as professor at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin. The German University Association named him "University Teacher of the Year 2025", bestowing the accolade upon a musician for the first time ever.
Benjamin Nyffenegger, principal cellist of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich since 2008, maintains a thriving international career as soloist and chamber musician. His recordings with the Oliver Schnyder Trio and his work as artistic director of SeetalClassics and artistic co-director of Boswiler Sommer have received major acclaim.
