Christiane Karg is regarded as one of the most versatile lyric sopranos of her generation. Equally at home on the opera, concert, and recital stage, she has established a distinctive artistic profile through innovative song and concert programmes, close collaborations with renowned orchestras and conductors, and appearances at many of the world's leading opera houses. While still studying at the Mozarteum University Salzburg, she made her acclaimed debut at the Salzburg Festival.

Since then, she has appeared in many of the defining roles of her fach, including Pamina (Die Zauberflöte) at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and the Opéra national de Paris, Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro) at Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier) and Euridice (Orphée et Euridice) at La Scala in Milan, Mélisande (Pelléas et Mélisande) at the Vienna State Opera, and Pamina, Mélisande, Daphne and Contessa Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro) at the Hamburg State Opera. Further highlights include Micaëla (Carmen) at the Berlin State Opera, as well as Pamina, Blanche (Dialogues des Carmélites) and Fiordiligi at the Bavarian State Opera. As Artist in Residence at the Graz Musikverein, she appeared for the first time as Rosalinde in a concert performance of Johann Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, while in 2024 she made her acclaimed role debut as Rusalka at the Berlin State Opera. She returned to Berlin in 2026 for her role debut as the Governess in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw and appears there in summer 2027 as Elettra (Idomeneo) under Sir Simon Rattle.

Equally sought-after internationally as a concert artist, Christiane Karg performs regularly with the world's leading orchestras and conductors. Her 2026-27 concert season is a testament to this, with performances as soloist in Mahler's Fourth Symphony in Seoul with the KBS Symphony under Myung-Whun Chung, in Valencia (in combination with Berg's Sieben frühe Lieder) under Antonello Manacorda, as well as on tour in the US (in addition to Mahler's Second Symphony) with the Vienna Philharmonic under Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Further highlights include Schumann's Das Paradies und die Peri with the London Philharmonic Orchestra under Edward Gardner and with the Orquesta y Coro Nacionales de España under David Afkham, Strauss' Vier letzte Lieder with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France under Dalia Stasevska, and Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia under Daniel Harding.

Among her most important musical collaborators are Ivor Bolton, Herbert Blomstedt, Riccardo Chailly, Christoph Eschenbach, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Iván Fischer, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Thomas Hengelbrock, Manfred Honeck, Mariss Jansons, Marek Janowski, Christian Măcelaru, Andrew Manze, Klaus Mäkelä, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Andris Nelsons, Kirill Petrenko and Christian Thielemann. These collaborations have led to regular appearances with many of the world’s leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, Dresden Staatskapelle, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, Philadelphia Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Bamberg Symphony, Vienna Symphony Orchestra and Munich Philharmonic.

A passionate recitalist, Christiane Karg appears regularly at major international venues and festivals, including the Schubertiade, London’s Wigmore Hall, where she previously served as Artist in Residence, Vienna’s Musikverein and Konzerthaus, Berlin’s Pierre Boulez Saal and the Salzburg Festival. In 2026/27 she presents a tango programme at the Salzburg Mozarteum and gives solo recitals at Madrid’s Teatro de la Zarzuela and Dallas Opera.

An acclaimed recording artist, she has received multiple Echo Klassik awards, including Opera Recording of the Year for Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro under Yannick Nézet-Séguin, as well as honours for her solo recordings Scene! with Arcangelo and Jonathan Cohen and Verwandlung – Lieder eines Jahres. Her discography includes the critically acclaimed solo album Parfum, featuring French mélodies inspired by Baudelaire, Verlaine and Hugo, alongside Amoretti and Heimliche Aufforderung on the Berlin Classics label. An exclusive Harmonia Mundi artist, her recent releases include Erinnerung, devoted to songs by Mahler, and Das Licht der Welt – A Christmas Promenade with Gerold Huber and the Bavarian Radio Choir under Howard Arman, alongside acclaimed recordings of Beethoven, Mahler and Haydn with leading European orchestras and conductors.

Beyond the stage, Christiane Karg is Artistic Director of the KunstKlang Festival in her hometown of Feuchtwangen and founder of the outreach initiative Be part of it! – Music for All, dedicated to youth music education. Her cultural contributions have been recognised with the Brahms Prize, the Bavarian Culture Prize and the Bavarian Order of Merit.
