The soprano Simona Šaturová, born in Bratislava (Slovakia), received her first violin lessons at the age of five. After completing her secondary education, she studied singing at the Conservatory in Bratislava and attended various master classes, including those with the Romanian soprano Ileana Cotrubas and the vocal expert Margreet Honig, who continues to coach her. Today, Simona Šaturová is in demand internationally, both on the opera stage and in concert, and collaborates with many renowned conductors and orchestras.
She has appeared in New York, Vienna, Paris, Munich, Berlin, Dallas, Oslo, Toronto, Istanbul, at the Salzburg Festival, the Tanglewood Festival, the Oregon Bach Festival in Eugene, in Japan, Israel, and Venezuela, at the Festival Internazionale di Musica e Arte Sacra in Rome, the Lucerne Festival, the Rheingau Music Festival, and the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. Her musical partners include Christoph Eschenbach, Herbert Blomstedt, Adam Fischer, Iván Fischer, Sylvain Cambreling, Manfred Honeck, Tomáš Netopil, Kent Nagano, Christopher Hogwood, Antonello Manacorda, Jakub Hrůša, Juraj Valčuha, Jaap van Zweden, and Philippe Herreweghe.
The artist performs worldwide, with a special connection to the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, where she has been heard as Violetta Valéry (La traviata), Sandrina (La finta giardiniera), Servilia (La clemenza di Tito), Gilda (Rigoletto), Ismene (Mitridate), Lucio Cinna (Lucio Silla), and most recently as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni and as the Countess in The Marriage of Figaro. In addition to numerous appearances at the National Theatre in Prague, the soprano has also been seen on the stages of the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, the Frankfurt Opera, the Semperoper in Dresden, the Theater an der Wien, the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, the Opéra de Monte Carlo, and the Megaron in Athens. Her repertoire includes roles such as Lucia (Lucia di Lammermoor), Adina (L'elisir d'amore), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Elettra (Idomeneo), Vitellia (La clemenza di Tito), Giulietta (I Capuleti e i Montecchi), Celia (Lucio Silla), and Madama Cortese (Il viaggio a Reims). In the 2024/2025 season, she will perform in Bratislava as Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) under the baton of Tomáš Brauner, and with the Collegium 1704 under the baton of Václav Luks as the Countess (Le Nozze di Figaro) in Brno and Caen.
As a concert and oratorio singer, Simona Šaturová is also internationally recognized. On the occasion of the 120th anniversary of Antonin Dvořák, his works frequently appear in her programs, such as at the Ostrava Festival, in concerts in Prague and Dresden with the Dresden Philharmonic under the baton of Michael Sanderling, and in Lucerne with the local orchestra. In Bratislava and Vienna, the artist will perform in Mozart's Coronation Mass and Berlioz's Te Deum under the baton of Stefan Vladar, and she will sing Mozart's C minor Mass with the Prague Radio Orchestra under Václav Luks. In the field of Lieder, she can be heard in Brno, Santiago de Compostela, and Ostrava.
Her CD recordings are available from labels such as Supraphon, hänssler classic, Classico, Carus Verlag, and Sony/BMG. Her first solo recording, titled Haydn Arias, was released with the NDR Radiophilharmonie under the baton of Alessandro De Marchi on the ORFEO label and was awarded the Editor's Choice by Gramophone Magazine. She also released her solo CD Decade featuring virtuoso arias by W. A. Mozart and J. Mysliveček, a recording of Martinů's opera Ariane, and most recently a CD featuring Dvořák's Moravian Duets (Supraphon).
