Born in Straubing, pianist Gerold Huber studied with Friedemann Berger at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich and attended the Lied class of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau in Berlin. Since his student days, he has formed a celebrated Lied duo with baritone Christian Gerhaher, with whom he received the Prix International Pro Musicis in 1998. In 2026, Gerold Huber was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for his outstanding contributions to the international art of Lied and his long-standing commitment to supporting young musicians.
Gerold Huber is regarded as one of the leading Lied pianists of his generation. His interpretations are distinguished by profound musical insight, expressive depth, and stylistic sensitivity. He performs at major festivals and concert halls worldwide and collaborates with renowned singers and ensembles, including the Artemis Quartet.
Alongside his extensive, award-winning discography – including the complete edition of Robert Schumann’s songs with Christian Gerhaher – Huber is also dedicated to solo repertoire by Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, and Schubert. He is a highly respected educator and Professor of Lied Interpretation at the Universities of Music in Würzburg and Munich.
