Hanno Müller-Brachmann trained with Ingeborg Most in Freiburg and Rudolf Piernay in Mannheim, and attended the art song (Lied) class of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau in Berlin. His success at the ARD International Music Competition in Munich and the Neue Stimmen Competition in Gütersloh led him early in his career to the Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin, where Daniel Barenboim engaged him while he was still a student. He remained a member of the ensemble for 13 years, performing his core repertoire. This was followed by guest appearances at major opera houses, including the State Operas of Hamburg, Munich and Vienna, as well as Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
The artist is equally in demand on the international concert stage, having achieved great success under the baton of conductors such as Adam Fischer, Daniel Harding, Gianandrea Noseda, Andris Nelsons, Vladimir Jurowski, Kirill Petrenko, Sir Simon Rattle and Bernard Haitink.
During the 2026/27 Beethoven anniversary year, the music of Ludwig van Beethoven forms a cornerstone of his concert schedule. He opens the season with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam under Iván Fischer, followed by a major European tour with the Budapest Festival Orchestra. He will also perform Beethoven’s Missa solemnis in Künzelsau and at the Alte Oper Frankfurt. As part of The Wagner Cycles, he continues his collaboration with Kent Nagano, taking on the role of Fafner in Wagner’s Siegfried at the Wiener Konzerthaus. The great oratorio repertoire remains another key focus, featuring Bach’s Christmas Oratorio in Baden-Baden and the St John Passion under Fabio Luisi in Dallas.
Alongside his performing career, the bass-baritone teaches as Professor of Voice at the Karlsruhe University of Music. He also serves as a juror for international competitions and is Chairman of the youth choir Cantus Juvenum Karlsruhe e. V.
