Limburg-born soprano Julia Kleiter studied with Prof. William Workmann in Hamburg and Prof. Klesie Kelly-Moog in Cologne. In 2004, she made her debut at the Opéra-Bastille in Paris as Pamina, a role she sang in numerous productions in Madrid, Zurich, at the New York Met, in Munich or at the Salzburg Festival over the next ten years under the baton of conductors such as Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Marc Minkowski, Claudio Abbado, Adam Fischer and, most recently, Philippe Jordan.

Riccardo Muti, Ivor Bolton, René Jacobs, Helmut Rilling, Fabio Luisi, Philippe Herreweghe, Giovanni Antonini and Marek Janowski are other conductors who have accompanied Julia Kleiters on her musical journey. She sang Beethoven's 9th Symphony under Daniel Barenboim in Berlin, Dvořák's Stabat Mater in Munich, Dvořák's Requiem in Berlin and Schumann's Das Paradies und die Peri in Frankfurt, Zurich and Leipzig. She sang Brahms' Deutsches Requiem in London and at the Salzburg Easter Festival. Haydn's Schöpfung brought Julia Kleiter to La Scala in Milan and to Berlin. On tour with the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden under Christian Thielemann, she sang the soprano part in Zemlinsky's Lyric Symphony - a further step towards the great lyric repertoire.

At the Royal Opera House Covent Garden she sang the Contessa in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro under Sir John Eliot Gardiner and at La Scala Milan under Daniel Harding. Also at La Scala, she sang Agathe in Weber's Der Freischütz and Ilia in Mozart's Idomeneo. Other recent highlights include Donna Anna at the Hamburg State Opera and the Elbphilharmonie, and Eva in Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg under Daniel Barenboim in Berlin, Philippe Jordan in Paris and Christian Thielemann in Dresden. In 2022/23, Julia Kleiter made up for her role debut as the Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier in Brussels and returned to the Bavarian State Opera as Agathe and to the Semperoper Dresden as the Contessa.

In the 2023/24 season, Julia Kleiter will return to the Opéra National de Paris as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, to the Semperoper Dresden as Countess Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro, and to the State Operas of Berlin and Vienna as the Field Marshal in Richard Strauss' Der Rosenkavalier.

On the concert stage, Julia Kleiter can be heard at the Leipzig Gewandhaus in Beethoven's 9th Symphony under the baton of Manfred Honeck and at the Vienna Musikverein with Riccardo Muti. There, as well as in Stockholm, she will sing the soprano part of the Missa solemnis under the baton of Herbert Blomstedt.

With her outstanding interpretations of lieder, Julia Kleiter is a regular guest at London's Wigmore Hall, the Schubertiades in Schwarzenberg and Vilabertran, and the Heidelberg Spring Festival. In Christian Gerhaher's major project on the Lieder of Hugo Wolf, she was the soprano partner in the Spanish Songbook in Heidelberg, London, Madrid, Munich and at the Salzburg Festival. In the fall of 2023, she will enrich the Liedwoche at Schloss Elmau with a duo evening alongside Christian Gerhaher.

Numerous CDs and DVDs document her artistic work, including her recording of songs by Franz Liszt and Julius Drake at the piano, which will be available on Hyperion in January 2020. She also plays a major role in Sony's recording of the complete Schumann works, accompanied on the piano by Gerold Huber.
