The German bass Tareq Nazmi studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München with Edith Wiens and Christian Gerhaher and received private tuition from Hartmut Elbert. After beginning his career at the Opera Studio of the Bavarian State Opera, where he was a member of the ensemble until 2016, he established himself as one of the most sought-after singers in his field, known for his distinctive character portrayals on international stages.
His most important roles include Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte), King Heinrich (Lohengrin), King Marke (Tristan und Isolde), Zaccaria (Nabucco), Gurnemanz (Parsifal) and Filippo II (Don Carlo). His engagements have taken him to major venues and festivals including the Salzburg Festival, the Vienna State Opera, the Bavarian State Opera, the Royal Opera House London, the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Bayreuth Festival.
Tareq Nazmi is also an internationally sought-after concert soloist, with a repertoire ranging from Bach and Brahms to Mahler. He has collaborated with leading orchestras and conductors including the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonics, Kirill Petrenko, Daniel Barenboim and Antonio Pappano. His regular collaboration with pianist Gerold Huber has taken him to renowned venues and festivals such as the Schubertiade Hohenems and London’s Wigmore Hall.
