Manfred Honeck conducts the Vienna Symphony Orchestra: “Homage to Johann Strauss”

On the occasion of the 200th birthday of Johann Strauss, we are pleased to draw attention to a very special musical event: On October 25, 2025, Manfred Honeck will lead the Vienna Symphony Orchestra in a festive concert at the Vienna Musikverein – an evening that promises both artistic brilliance and historical depth.

Under the title “Homage to Johann Strauss,” the program spans a musical arc from 19th-century Viennese waltz tradition to contemporary expression. At the heart of the evening are two significant world premieres, composed especially for this occasion – new works by John Williams and Max Richter, performed by world-renowned violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter.

“Johann Strauss gave Vienna a musical identity that still resonates around the world today,” says Manfred Honeck. “To revive that spirit with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and Anne-Sophie Mutter is both a gift and a challenge. We want to show that Strauss is not only history, but also very much present.”

Another highlight of the evening: the participation of the Vienna Boys’ Choir, bringing youthful energy and radiance to the celebration.

The concert promises to be not only a homage to one of Vienna’s most iconic composers, but also a powerful statement on the vitality of classical music in our time.
